..............................---- Remote Shifters -- Page 9 ---
How do you shift a manual transmission when the driver sits in front of the motor. Here are a couple pictures I took of some low tech shifters (no fancy air shifters here). If you have some pictures or can tell us more about these please e-mail me.
..................Here a rod and a hinge and a heim joint get the job done.
..........................I believe this is the shifter in the cockpit of the car in the first picture, but I'm not absolutely sure. Rotate the handle and push it backwards or forward.
..................
I liked the arrangement in this car and would have probably copied it if I would of built my lakester for a car motor/transmission. Two handles with a gate so only one handle at a time can go backwards and forwards.
..................
This picture shows a coupling in the two rods (sorry it is out of focus) going back to the transmission.
...................
The two rods hook to a couple short shafts that are connected to the shift arms on the transmission.

Stan Back had this to say about the lakester in the following five pictures "Jack Kelly of the yellow Kelly & Hall lakester has, from what I've seen, the best set-up. I believe it uses a regular Hurst shifter and regular shift arms on the Super T-10(?) trans., and instead of rods, he uses solid cables ( Morse Cables ) to link the shifter to the arms. Everything stays "stock" dimension, it appears, and you don't have to learn a new shift pattern. He told me he's never had any trouble with it, but of course, he knows how to put things together right."
...................
Here is a close up of the shifter with the morse cables attached. Sorry, but I don't have any pictures of the transmission end of this deal.

This is such a beautiful car I wanted to include a couple more pictures. I'll start with the nice clean frontend on the car above......

..................and the rear is just as nice looking. I like the chute pocket and.....

........the fairings around the rear axles. If my lakester comes out looking one half as nice I'll be real happy. Nice car guys!!!
